Inhouse Farming – Feed & Food Convention: Focus on future-proof business models
ShareShareShareShareShare

Inhouse Farming – Feed & Food Convention on 30 September and 1 October 2025 in Hamburg – Wide-ranging specialist program with 16 sessions – Inspiration, new perspectives, networking and best cases – Register now!

New approaches to food production are the focus of the Inhouse Farming – Feed & Food Convention, which will take place from Tuesday, 30 September to Wednesday, 1 October 2025 at the Congress Center Hamburg. The two-day DLG (German Agricultural Society) conference offers the agricultural and food value chain valuable insights into innovative and sustainable production methods such as vertical farming, insect farming, aquaculture and algae – topics that open up new perspectives. Renowned experts from research and practice will share their knowledge and experience on economic implementation, new technologies and sustainable business models. The convention combines a varied technical programme and interactive formats with a themed exhibition – creating a future-oriented platform for knowledge transfer, inspiration and personal exchange.

The agricultural and food industry is undergoing radical change. Companies along the entire agricultural and food value chain are faced with the challenge of developing sustainable strategies for the future. “With its diverse technical programme, the Inhouse Farming – Feed & Food Convention 2025 creates a professional environment in which strategic considerations can be explored in depth, innovative solutions can be discovered and practical impulses for operational development can be gained,” says Marcus Vagt, Head of Energy, Inhouse Farming and New Food at the DLG Competence Center Agriculture and Food.

On the first day of the event – Tuesday, 30 September 2025 – after the welcome address and thematic introduction, the varied technical programme will start in two time slots: Participants can choose from four parallel sessions from 1:00 to 2:30 and from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. The event blocks offer practical insights into alternative forms of production. Above all, they highlight innovative business models for the agricultural and food industry – presented by experts from science, industry and practice with plenty of time for discussion and dialogue.

In the thematic block “Vertical Farming – CEA salad products and speciality crops from the building”, a German family farm with livestock and vegetable cultivation will show how hydroponics can contribute to strategic resilience and resource efficiency. The session will be complemented by practical insights into scalable high-tech lettuce production in the US market and an established mid-tech lettuce chute system for the German market. The second session is dedicated to “Inhouse Farming – CEA Clusters”. It shows how Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) can provide new inspiration for the revitalisation of industrial sites. The focus is on concepts that intelligently combine modern food production, digital infrastructure and renewable energies.

In the “Insect farming – basics” session, interested parties will gain a sound insight into the most important preliminary considerations for operational implementation – particularly with regard to the question of whether this production model is suitable for their own farm. In addition, the applications of insects, the technical realisation and marketing concepts as well as the role of insects as a missing element of the circular economy will be discussed. Legal requirements and authorisation criteria, feed potential and nutrient efficiency as well as practical experience from pilot projects are also on the agenda. In the second thematic block, “Insect farming – successful approaches & innovation”, best-practice examples in particular will show how new sources of income can be tapped and sustainable recycling systems established.

The thematic block “Aquaculture – growth in water” offers practical insights into innovative forms of fish, crustacean and algae production under a roof. This ranges from small-scale inhouse farming of sea bass and cultivated fish to pike perch farming in closed recirculation systems and aquaponics.

The “Cellular Agriculture” session focusses on promising potential and innovative methods of food production in which animal and plant products are produced in vitro, i.e. in the laboratory. The event not only highlights the latest technological developments and economic opportunities, but also the ethical and ecological challenges that go hand in hand with them.
