Biochem replaces the palm fat in RumiPro® Urea with a rapeseed-based fat
ShareShareShareShareShare

Biochem is proud to announce its continued commitment to sustainability with the reformulation of RumiPro® Urea. The new formula uses rapeseed-based fat as a coating instead of palm fat while still providing gradual and continuous urea release in the rumen. With this change, RumiPro® Urea can be a part of balanced, energy-rich diets for those dairy producers who want to eliminate all tropical raw materials in the diet.

“We are enthusiastic about this change,” said Bernhard Landwehr Senior Nutritionist in Research and Development at Biochem. “Urea is an important nitrogen source for rumen microbes, but it is equally important that the urea is released slowly. We have been able to maintain the optimal release pattern while eliminating the palm fat”

Palm oil’s reputation has suffered in recent years. A key factor is the public perception of oil palm cultivation practices and their impact on local ecosystems and loss of biodiversity. RumiPro® Urea is now palm fat free in response to requests from dairy processors looking to enhance their quality programs.

Balancing diets for high-producing cows is always a challenge. Meeting energy, protein, and fiber requirements can be difficult, especially when eliminating soybean meal. The protein density in RumiPro® Urea makes room for increasing energy and fiber.

The reformulated RumiPro® Urea offers several advantages:

  • GMO free
  • Can replace soybean meal
  • Free of tropical raw materials
  • Produced in Germany
  • Short and secure supply chain
  • Lower carbon footprint

“Several of our customers have told us they want to eliminate palm fat from their feeding program,” Landwehr continued. “This product not only fulfills their wish, but is also a step towards more sustainable dairy production.”

RumiPro® Urea is a slow release urea supplied as free flowing granules for use in dairy cattle diets. It is supplied in 25 kg bags and 1,000 kg big bags.
