Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences organized a workshop titled ‘Hydroponics Farming’.
The workshop addressed the growing challenges in the fields of food security, environmental concerns, and sustainability. It also shed light on innovation in hydroponic farming, an advanced technique for crop cultivation that has garnered widespread attention from experts in the agriculture sector due to its ability to address environmental challenges and agricultural issues.
In his comments regarding the success of this workshop, His Excellency Dr. Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences, stated, “This workshop on hydroponic farming aligns with the Foundation’s efforts to enhance knowledge of innovative technologies and their applications in daily life, particularly in vital sectors like agriculture, which plays a fundamental role in achieving food security and economic stability. The workshop has been successful in achieving its objectives, providing valuable insights to our students in the field of hydroponic farming, one of the advanced and innovative technologies for crop cultivation. Participants have gained awareness of the problems and challenges that can be addressed through innovative methods and techniques in this field.”
The workshop witnessed the attendance of nearly 100 students from public schools, as well as students from Dubai Police’s Hemaya Schools. Participating students learned how to implement an innovative project involving the establishment of a hydroponic farm. The workshop’s goals included promoting a culture of innovation and digital manufacturing among community members and acquainting participants with key technologies used in agriculture. Furthermore, it aimed to provide practical experience or a case study that enables participants to apply hydroponic farming concepts in their lives and enhance their problem-solving skills.
The participating students also received an in-depth explanation of hydroponics, its principles, methods, benefits, and its impact on the future of agriculture through an innovative project, which was a fully integrated hydroponic farm built by the trainees during the event. The workshop covered various related topics, including programming, 3D printing, design, digital manufacturing, and electronics.
The participants expressed their delight at being part of the workshop, where they learned numerous new skills and gained knowledge about hydroponic farming and its techniques. The workshop was organized with the participation of qualified trainers in the fields of agriculture and technology from leading institutions.
