Department Of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) announced recently significant results achieved by the DMT Farms and Ranches Inspection Team in Abu Dhabi for the Q1 of 2021.
Led by the Department of Municipalities and Transport and in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority ADAFS, the Presidential Camels & Camel Racing Affairs Centre, and Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre “Tadweer”. These results have directly contributed to regulating the use of farms and ranches in the emirate, ensuring the implementation of sustainable measures that will improve the botanical and livestock sectors, while preserving the environment and overall appearance of the emirate.
DMT and its affiliates have organized multiple awareness campaigns through public and social media platforms targeting Abu Dhabi residences to identify best practices and procedures for the establishment and operation of ranches and farms. In addition, direct messaging campaigns were launched to communicate with individuals urging them to adhere to the guidelines and use ranches and farms responsibly in accordance with regulations.
Nearly 14,000 farms and ranches were inspected using advanced and accurate survey and monitoring techniques, including state-of-the-art Lidar technology, precision aerial drone imagery, modern analysis and monitoring techniques, and automated tracking and inspection reports. These advanced techniques have helped control and monitor improper practices and irregularities across all farms and ranches in Abu Dhabi, with the aim of preserving Abu Dhabi’s aesthetic landscape, promoting agricultural sustainability, and ensuring health safety.
The voluntary cleanup campaigns launched by DMT, and its subsidiaries aimed at overseeing farms and ranches operations and waste management in both Abu Dhabi and Al Ain mainland areas. More than 89,627 tons of waste and recyclable materials were successfully removed and processed in accordance with DMT’s sustainable environmental strategy. The Farms and Ranches Inspection Team used a total of 3,034 specialized vehicles during the operations. 80 abandoned buildings were removed, and 205 abandoned pits were backfilled in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
Working closely with DMT affiliates and partners, the Farms and Ranches Inspection Team has successfully resolved 88% of farms and ranches cases. With the support of advanced technologies like lidar and drones.
Earlier this year, DMT published a Farms and Ranches Guide that includes all operations, health and safety standards, as well as official regulations and standard leasing process for seasonal, breeding and racing camel ranches. The DMT Farms and Ranches Guide provides a comprehensive framework for Abu Dhabi residences that maintain a sustainable workflow and protect Abu Dhabi’s environmental biodiversity, in line with Abu Dhabi’s vision of sustainability and preservation of the Emirate natural resources and sites.
