Midwestern BioAg (MBA), a pioneer in biological and regenerative agriculture, announced the launch of HydraPrime™, a next-generation seed treatment technology designed to support faster, more uniform early-season crop establishment. Built for today’s commercial seed treatment systems, HydraPrime helps seeds manage moisture more efficiently at planting, setting the foundation for stronger early growth under a wide
range of field conditions.
“HydraPrime stemmed from our work with Bio-Gel® as a liquid in-furrow starter fertilizer,” shares Midwestern BioAg’s Director of Research Chris Kniffen.
“After repeated field trials showed more uniform emergence, stronger early vigor, and improved ROI, we developed HydraPrime as a seed treatment that delivers the same Bio-Gel technology directly on the seed.”
HydraPrime Technology
Building on established seed priming science, HydraPrime delivers early-season hydration benefits in a practical, compatible form. Using MBA’s proprietary Bio-Gel technology, HydraPrime creates a localized, moisture-rich microenvironment around the seed, improving the efficiency of early water uptake and helping activate germination more consistently across the field.
The seed treatment is designed to integrate seamlessly into standard seed treatment systems, reducing abrasion and dust-off while improving the retention of applied actives. Unlike traditional treatment approaches that require specialized handling and equipment, HydraPrime integrates directly into standard seed treatment systems, delivering hydration benefits without disrupting existing workflows.
The result: A more uniform emergence, improved germination rates, and drought stress tolerance.
Brandon Meiners, Director of Agronomy, shares: “HydraPrime was developed to help growers win the most critical phase of the season—emergence. By accelerating germination by up to two days, we’re giving crops a faster, more uniform start, stronger early roots, and a better ability to handle stress before it ever shows up above ground. In today’s tight planting windows and unpredictable spring conditions, that early advantage can set the tone for the entire season.”
HydraPrime Trial Observations
Across multiple crops, including corn, soybeans, and wheat, HydraPrime has demonstrated consistent early-season performance in trial settings. These observations highlight the product’s ability to support faster, more uniform establishment across diverse environments.
● In corn, soybeans, and wheat, HydraPrime accelerated germination by up to two days
● Wheat trials have shown up to a 4% increase in total germination versus untreated checks
Kniffen also shares: “Early seed-safety, laboratory, and growth-chamber testing also showed increased water uptake and faster germination with HydraPrime, delivering osmopriming-like benefits in a practical, farm-friendly approach.”
The bottom line, he adds, “HydraPrime helps set the crop up for a faster, more uniform start when conditions matter most.”
This product marks the first of many new products that will be coming to market.
